New Orbitals

This original oil painting by Nicholas Stedman, titled New Orbitals, measuring 126 x 146 cm, is part of the Body Language series. The series dissects various types of movement, presenting them as hieroglyphic shapes reminiscent of letters. This work captures four distinct moments of movement arranged as a polyptych of 16 panels. Vibrant colors emphasize the dynamism of each motion.

The painting was inspired by a break dancer performing headspins in my studio, a young man diving off rocks in Siracusa, a dancer doing a pirouette on the floor, and a circus artist rotating in aerial silks. You can see another body language polyptych here.
