Grey Orbitals
This oil painting was created with the direct involvement of two students from the French National Circus Arts School at Chalon. The concept was to capture moments of two intertwined circular (orbital) movements. The figures are illuminated by bright lateral light inspired by the visual effect of atoms or electrons in a cloud chamber. One artist was physically tied by a foot or hand to a rope, while the other controlled her movement by pulling the rope. The composition combines four distinct moments of these two circular motions to create a dynamic, almost kinetic effect, dominated by greys with subtle touches of yellow. The result is a stark and honest depiction of physical interaction and motion without any romanticizing.
