Chorus
In the Chorus series, the painter cuts and shaves a black fur background and then paints in white the faces of friends united by a personal tragedy. Presented in its entirety at the Galerie Ferama, Place du Marché Sainte-Catherine gallery in Paris, this series marks the definitive adoption of synthetic fur as one of the artist’s preferred mediums.
By incorporating synthetic fur, whose density creates an almost sculptural effect, Stedman suggests movement in a renewed way. This choice responds to a desire dear to the artist: to invite the viewer to touch the work. This soft, fleece-textured surface then becomes a living material, encouraging a direct tactile link with the public, capable of changing the direction of the fibres of the fur at the slightest touch.
